Abstract

The various functions on a motor vehicle such as the windscreen wipers and direction indicators are controlled from the dashboard. The electrical wiring is reduced to a single wire by the transmission of pulses at three amplitude levels to a receiver which provides local control of these functions. A number of control switches (I1-n) are connected to a control circuit (10) which contains a transmitter (12). This produces a repetitive control signal (5) on which pulses of three different amplitude levels are superimposed. These pulses provide timing (V1), synchronisation (V2) and the operating pulses (V3). The transmitter is connected via a single wire (14) to a receiver (13) where discriminator circuits select the relevant pulses for decoding. The decoded signals activate relay driver circuits (15) to operate the respective functions.
