Abstract

Used for agricultural irrigation purposes, the continuously travelling unit distributes mains water. It includes a retractable hose with a travelling junction box. The hose is of a thin walled flexible construction whereby it flattens with diametrically opposed folds, has apertures controlled by recoil sprung flap valves, and when expanded forms a track for the junction or distributor box. The box sits on the hose, making a sealed contact along two hose generatrices and on the edges of two semi-circular arched end walls, and contains an endless chain with teeth which actuate the flap valves at that location. Rollers maintain the box on the hose, having axial profiles which follow transverse hose contours. A further set of rollers flatten the hose and effect the seal, being mounted in advance of a drum upon which the flattened hose is stored.
