Abstract

A storage frame for rod-shaped fuel elements of polygonal cross-section, esp. from light water reactors, comprises upper and lower support gratings which define the lattice storage position of the elements and lateral hollow supports or columns connecting these gratings together. The columns have a geometrically similar, polygonal cross-section and each surround a number of fuel elements positions. More specifically, the side length of the polygonal cross-section of one column is 3-8 times the side length of the cross-section of a fuel element. The support columns may have flanges at their upper and lower ends with apertures through which the fuel elements can pass. Improved structural strength is obtd. and construction is simplified. Unit-composed construction of the support frame is readily possible, thus enabling frames of varying sizes to be built up from identical elements.
