Abstract
The proximity detector gives the absolute or relative position coding in a safety system or in a system where a particular movement is required. A code formatter comprising a microprocessor controlled sampling circuit allows the position information to be transmitted. The detector comprises an induction coil (13) and a concentric winding (12) which produces a high energy level electromagnetic field adjacent to the detector surface (20). A static receiver contains a coil (1) tuned to receive the electromagnetic field energy. Continuous alternating converters (3, 8) with a code generator (7) and a static switch (5) connect a series resonant circuit (2, 6) into circuit which does or does not absorb energy at the code rate. A code formatter (23) containing a microprocessor controlled samples allows the output code (22) to be transmitted on a unique line. The application is esp. for coding a geographic location.
