Abstract

Cpds. of formula (I) and their pharmaceutically acceptable acid addn. salts are new (where R1 is -S(O)mR3, -S(O)nCF3 or -SO2NR4R5, m is 0, 1 or 2, n is 1 or 2, R3 is 1-10C alkyl, R4 and R5 are each H or 1-4C alkyl, or NR4R5 may be a heterocycle opt. contg. another heteroatom, R2 is H or -CH2CH2-OR6, R6 is H, -COR7, -COHR7 or 1-6C alkyl, R7 is 1-6C alkyl, provided that R2 is not H wen R1 is -SCH3). 2- 4(3-methyl-thiophenyl)-1-piperazinyl ethanol and salts are specifically claimed. (I) are psychotropic agents useful in treatment of anxiety and depression at 5-200 mg/day, and analgesics useful for treatment of headaches, neuralgia, toothache, rheumatic paints etc. at 50-1000 mg/day.
