Abstract

The analyser comprises a cell contg. gas for analysis positioned between a source of radiation and a radiation detector. So far as possible the entire apparatus is enclosed in a casing which offers physical protection and prevents intrusion of gas from the surrounding atmos. into the measuring channel. The casing has to have openings for service pipework, ducts, cables etc., and these are made reasonably leakproof without incurring the expense of gas-tight seals. A system is provided to balance the pressure inside the casing with ambient pressure of the atmos.. The system pref. includes making part of the casing wall in a sheet material which is flexible, slightly resilient and impregnable to gas. This part of the casing wall is pref. a rubber bag with a pipe connection into the casing interior. The pipe pref. contains a filter material such as a powdered mixt. of magnesium perchlorate and ascarite. Used for analysing partic. CO or CO2. The analyser can be used in different ambient atmos. pressures without requiring frequent recalibration to eliminate errors due to intrusion of gases from outside the casing.
