Abstract

La présente invention concerne un modulateur électro-optique perfectionné. Un liquide d'ajustement acoustique ayant une impédance acoustique sensiblement identique à celle d'un cristal électro-optique est disposé dans une enceinte entourant ce cristal. Ce liquide supprime les résonances acousto-optiques dans le cristal en éliminant l'énergie acoustique hors du cristal et constitue également un parcours conducteur de la chaleur uniforme pour réduire au minimum les variations des gradients de température et la contrainte thermique résultante induite dans le cristal. Un dispositif d'absorption acoustique est également disposé autour du cristal et absorbe l'énergie acoustique transmise par le liquide d'ajustement acoustique. Un joint élastomère est prévu à chaque extrémité du cristal pour constituer un joint étanche entre l'enceinte et le cristal pour maintenir le liquide acoustique dans celui-ci. L'invention est par exemple applicable dans le domaine des lasers.
