Abstract

Material for acoustic insulation of floors and walls comprises >=2 layers of porous, flexible, insulating material, sepd. by flexible airtight sheets in contact with the layers. The insulating layers are 1-10 (2-4) mm thick and each layer has a resistance to the passage of air of 200-1000 Rayls and a dynamic stiffness of (1-5) x 105 N/m3. The insulating material consists of (non)woven fibres opt. assembled with a binder or a flexible foam with open pores. A preferred embodiment provides glass or mineral fibres laid parallel to the surface and bonded with an elastomer. The material may be clad with planks of wood Suitable airtight sheet material is 100 mu thick polyethylene. Used for absorbing the noises of shock of impacts occurring during fall of articles onto a horizontal carrier, and preventing its transmission along the carrier. Materials shows improved acoustic insulation properties and is inexpensive.
