Abstract

The automatic developing machine for photographic film includes a fixing bath containing the chemical fixer. This liquid is recycled through an electrolysis chamber to recover silver from the liquid by passing an electric current through it. A part of this liquid flow is directed through a purifying carbon filter in the course of its circuit. A pump draws the soln. through the filter, while part goes straight back to the fixer bath. The filter is made of granular C held between two grids, the grain size being 0.5-4 mm. By purifying the soln., the time for which it may be used is extended, and the quality of electrolytic deposition of silver improved. The brown tint which the fixer normally acquires is avoided by use of the filter.
