Abstract

The ability of a helicopter to handle loads close to a vertical wall or rock face is enhanced by fitting a telescopic arm to the underside of the fuselage. The arm can pivot in the vertical plane and carries a hook at its outer end controlled by a cable. The provision of a telescopic arm enables the load to be moved in full view of the pilot. This feature is particularly important in effecting rescues of people from tall buildings or from rock faces.
