Abstract
For use in tunnel construction, at least one fan (10) is arranged in the free internal space (12) in a housing (6), which fan (10) moves an inert gas, as a cooling medium, upwards between and around cores (8) and coils (9) and produces a circulation (14) in the case of which the heated cooling medium is cooled on vertically running hollow cooling ribs (11). A cool external air flow is passed upwards over the cooling ribs (11) by means of a vertical drive (14') which creates an exchange of heat to the outside (16) of the cooling ribs (11). As a result of the special construction of the cooling ribs (11) and the circulation (14) which is guided along the said cooling ribs (11) on the inside, the active cooling can be limited to the internal space (12), as a result of which the production and maintenance of the transformer are simplified.
