Abstract

The conveyor for transferring poultry from a large poultry house to a lorry is made up of sections hinged together one behind the other. These sections support a conveying chain which passes round a drive sprocket one end and a return sprocket at the other end. From this chaim are suspended members which clamp around the feet of a bird and carry it from one end to the other. The whole is mounted on wheels. Each clamp has two curved arms (29, 30) attached to a vertical bar suspended from the chain. When the feet of the bird are inserted, they swing over a triangular cam (32) which causes one arm (30) to swing towards the other (29) controlled by a spring and a damping cylinder (35). The cam is operated by a stop at the discharge end so as to swing the arms open and release the bird.
