Abstract

Shaped panels for lining structures such as car doors are made by thermoforming a thermoplastic sheet having a border which is subjected to compressive creasing to produce a non-elastic offset fold. The border can then be doubled back to provide a mount for a series of concealed fasteners. Used for mfr. of chunky contoured panels with smooth untrimmed edges. The formed panel combines a tough, folded perimeter with a combination of a slightly concave form and an elastic supporting flange which can compensate for minor variations of fit and suppress local vibration.
