Abstract

On fabrique un copolymère d'éthylène ayant une densité de 0,900 à 0,940 par copolymérisation d'éthylène avec un autre monomère hydrocarboné insaturé en présence d'un catalyseur comprenant un composé du titane et/ou du vanadium et un composé organo-aluminique. On utilise un composé du titane et/ou du vanadium appliqué sur un support constitué par un composé magnésien et servant de composant du catalyseur et on mène la réaction de copolymérisation dans une phase liquide du monomère hydrocarboné insaturé Le polymère produit d'après ce procédé offre toute une série d'avantages par rapport aux polyéthylènes haute densité haute pression classiques : sa résistance mécanique est plus grande, sa rigidité est plus forte, son point de ramollissement est plus élevé, sa résistance au froid est plus grande (en particulier sa résistance aux chocs à basse température), la possibilité de l'étendre à l'état fondu est accrue, sa résistance à la fissuration sous tension est plus grande, etc si bien qu'il peut être mis en oeuvre, non seulement dans les domaines d'application des polyéthylènes basse densité haute pression classiques, mais aussi dans une grande variété de nouveaux domaines d'application
