Abstract
The hydro-pneumatic vehicle suspension unit comprises a gas pressure chamber (7) and working liquid chamber (9) which are separated by a first diaphragm (10). Oppositely acting one-way valves or restrictors (4) damp the liquid flow. The liquid chamber (9) is bounded by a second diaphragm (11) exposed to liquid at a variable pressure to compensate for pressure changes in gas chamber (7) caused by vehicle loading. The vehicle ride height can thus be held constant automatically by suitable control of applied pressure. The second diaphragm (11) may be located between a rolling diaphragm (13) and the first diaphragm (10), liquid being supplied at variable pressure between the diaphragms (13, 11).
