Abstract
An hydro-pneumatic vehicle suspension unit comprises a gas pressure chamber 7 and a liquid working chamber 9 which are separated from each other by a first diaphragm 10. Oppositely acting one-way valves or restrictors 4 are provided for damping liquid flow in the working chamber 9. The working chamber 9 is partly bounded by a second diaphragm 11. The side of the second diaphragm 11 remote from the working chamber 9 is subjected to a supply of liquid of which the pressure can be altered to compensate for changes in pressure in the pressure chamber 7 due to changes in the loading on a vehicle, whereby the ride height can be maintained constant. The adjustment may take place automatically. The diaphragm 11 may be located in the housing 3,5, between a rolling diaphragm 13 and the diaphragm 10, the space between the diaphragms 11 and 13 being connected to the supply of liquid. <IMAGE>
