Abstract

861,127. Road vehicle spring suspensions. USINES PAULSTRA, and JULIEN, M. F. A. May 24, 1957 [June 25, 1956], No. 16600/57. Class 108(2). In a hydro-pneumatic suspension system a helical spring 4 and an oleo-pneumatic spring 5 are attached to opposite ends of a member 2, which is slidingly mounted for vertical movement only on rods 6, to support approximately half each of a mass 1. Rubber bellows 5, a pipe 7 and a reservoir 8 contain air or a gas which is introduced under pressure through a valve 18. A bladder 9 and a pipe 10 contain oil supplied through a slide valve 11 by a pump 21 from a reservoir 19 at a pressure regulated by a by-pass valve 22. The distance Z is held constant as follows. Fluctuations in the load on the springs causing compression or extension puts either an oil supply pipe 16 or an outlet pipe 17 in connection with the pipe 10 by moving pistons 13, 14 up or down through a rod 23, a dashpot 28, a rod 27, a casing 26, springs 25 and a rod 24 attached to a member 2. The light springs 25 and the dashpot 28 ensure that the height regulating mechanism is not brought into action by road shocks on the wheels.
