Abstract
L'invention concerne la fabrication de guides d'ondes optiques assurant une propagation avec une seule direction de polarisation. Elle se rapporte à un guide d'ondes dans lequel les ondes polarisées orthogonalement sont découplées grâce à une biréfringence mécanique dépassant 5.10**-5 dans le guide. Cette biréfringence est obtenue par disposition d'une enveloppe 33 d'épaisseur non uniforme qui, après refroidissement, exerce des contraintes suffisantes sur le guide. Une seule onde polarisée peut être entretenue dans un tel guide, sans découplage. Application aux guides d'ondes des dispositifs optiques intégrés.The invention relates to the manufacture of optical waveguides providing propagation with a single direction of polarization. It relates to a waveguide in which orthogonally polarized waves are decoupled thanks to a mechanical birefringence exceeding 5.10 ** - 5 in the guide.
