Abstract

PURPOSE:To form the transmission signal of an optical fiber into single polarized single mode and stabilize transmission by so forming the fiber that the refractive index in part of the outside circumferential edges of the core part opposing with the center of the core part in-between becomes lower than the refractive index of the clad parts. CONSTITUTION:The 2nd clad parts 3 of a refractive index (nd) lower than the refractive index (n2) of the clad part 2 covering the core part 1 are formed in part of the outside circumferential edges of the core part 1 opposing at the right and left with the center of the core part 1 of having a circular section occupying the central part of the core. Here, the refractive index (n1) of the core part 1 is higher than the refractive index (n2) of the clad part 2. Since the optical fiber constituted in this way can transmit only the mode of the polarizing components in one direction, the orthogonal mode components generated when the optical fiber receives deformation immediately annihilates and the stable single polarizing mode transmission is performed.
