Abstract

A hydrophobic substrate, intended for uses like a ski sole a recording or video tape, or a cable or electrical liner for signal transmission with hydrophobic insulation of the cable, has a graphite coating which adheres in the absence of a binding agent. Almost all the graphite particles comprises at least two essentially hydrophobic surfaces. Before its application to the substrate, the graphite is treated by a liq. or gaseous, non-polar, non-water-miscible material, e.g. ethyl silicate. This material is used in sufficient amt. to give essentially hydrophobic, graphite which is still dispersable in a polar liq.
