Abstract

An elongated metal sheet is folded and coiled to form a heat exchanger with separated concentric passages for circulating fluids, the fold being made transversely at mid-length. A bar (3) is threaded between the two half lengths (1, 2) at the fold and is used to wind the double thickness onto a cylindrical core (4), the two free ens being anchored (7, 10) and tensioned during the process. The anchorages may be effected by tying back to elements (5, 11) which unwind progressively from winches (6, 12) a sheet (8) which eventually forms a casing interposing the outer sheet (2) and its anchorage (10). Once the coil is fully formed the sense of rotation is inverted for a quarter turn or so until the ends are accessible for welding together.
