The wound core is rewound so that its innermost layer is located most outside. This results in providing a rewound core 3 in which the innermost and the outermost layers are replaced with each other. The rewound core 3 is placed on an inner drive roller 4. The end of the outermost layer of the core 3 is passed inside a leg 7 of a coil 5. Since the core 3 has a self- contracting property, it winds itself around the leg of the coil 5. Further turning forces are applied to the inner drive roller 4 and another drive roller 2 to transfer the core 3 toward the leg 7 of the coil 5. The core 3 is thus wound across the coil 5.
