Abstract
A band filter incorporates a filter element consisting of an endless band which is vibrated, pref. by means of a vibrating frame over which its upper length passes. The vibrating frame is constituted by a rigid structure of elements leaving spaces between them and its edges are inclined so as to give the filter band the form of a trough. The elements consist e.g. of bars, cylindrical or otherwise, a grid or a perforated plate. The band is vibrated pref. over a fraction of its length comprised between upstream and downstream parts which are not vibrated and constitute upstream a draining section and downstream a zone provided with pressing rollers. The band filter is useful for thickening sludges, waste water and potable waters or for treating waters from e.g. beetroot washing, blast furnaces, paper-mills, fibre treatment plants or towns' waste waters. The appts. can be used for dilute sludges and is continuously washable, whereas existing band filters cannot, clog easily and cannot be washed continuously.
