Abstract

An enclosure, for heating of a fluid using solar energy, has walls made of stainless steel and copper, the wall which receives solar energy being formed of Cu sheet(s) having one face which receives solar energy and one face in contact with the fluid. The design allows any type of stainless steel, e.g. F17 or F17MT (17% Cr stainless and 17% Cr/% Mo/7 x C % Ti/0.04% C stainless steel resp.) to be used without the danger of pitting or crevice corrosion occurring even if Cl ion-contg. bactericides are present in the fluid. The Cu sheet is protected against deformation by the stainless steel and provides an enclosure with thermal efficiency at least equal to those made of Al (alloy).
