Abstract

A centrifuge for use e.g. in the continuous treatment of massecuite, has an upper bowl part with a truncated cone shape, and a lower similar part with a greater cone angle. The massecuite is charged to the top of the first part and outlet holes on its base discharge the syrup. Wash water and syrup leave through openings. The sugar crystals are expelled periodically by lowering a closure disc. This eliminates the problems of filterability and breakup of sugar crystals in continuous centrifuges, without necessitating the use of complex equipment.
