Abstract

The projectile has two or more iron-based casings. Each casing is roughly a centimetre thick, the outer one disintegrating into a large number of splinters for anti-personnel or anti-vehicle effect. The inner casing is of great mechanical strength, giving an armour-piercing effect. There can be an intermediate casing breaking into a number of large fragments. The casings can be cast in succession, the first acting as a mould for the second so that they are mechanically joined together.
