Abstract

The right angled portal frame unit is for use in industrialised building construction and builds up into a three-dimensional modular frame. Four units join together to form a frame module comprising a square ring frame in plan and with an equal height leg on each corner. The frame modules are joined by their posts to form a three-dimension-frame to a square grid. The unit has legs which, have a section equated to one quarter of that of the column of the composite frame. The legs of the unit may have a triangular section formed by the diagonal division of a square node. The section has a 90 deg. and 45 deg. angle formation and may have 45 deg. chamfers to the hypotenuse to give a pentagonal form.
