Abstract

A mechanically driven screw jack has a screwed shaft (16) which is moved axially by a screwed sleeve (14). The sleeve (14) is mounted in needle rollers bearings in a housing (1) and driven through bevel gears, (18, 5). The bevel gear (5) forms part of the tubular shaft (4) which is driven from the input shaft by means of a special clutch (7) which automatically locks the shaft (4) but the lock is released when the input shaft (6) begins to rotate. When the jack is not operating the screwed sleeve (14) is locked by the double sided disc brake (21).
