Abstract

A jack for lifting heavy loads consists of a flexible bellows (1) mounted between upper and lower plates (3, 5). The plates are conected by two links (29a, 31a) in the form of a cross with a common pivot (33). One end of each lever is pivoted to one or other of the plates. The other end of each lever slides in a horizontal guide (53, 55) attached to the plates. When the bellows is filled with fluid at high pressure the upper plate is raised and is maintained in a horizontal attitude by means of the links.
