Abstract

The permanent lightweight former blocks is for utilisation in the construction of suspended floors of in situ reinforced concrete. The blocks are installed spanning the lower flanges of prefabricated joists, support in situ concrete poured in the compression zone, and have expanded metal mesh fixed to their undersides. The expanded metal provides a mey for ceiling plaster, and is attached to the blocks by elastic clips. The blocks may be of expanded polystyrene or similar and the clips are of an assymetric square angled 'C' shape. The clip may be of galvanised piano wire and the two arms clamp onto the top and bottom horizontal surfaces of the block. Elasticity is imparted by a coil in the top angle, and a clip is utilised at each corner of a rectangular block with the coils located by top corner recesses.
