Abstract
The zero crossing detector is for use with high voltage circuits, e.g. contrd. circuits for h.v. transistors in rectifiers for h.v. d.c. transmission systems. The voltage to be supervised is taken from a voltage divider (33, 2) and fed to a rectifier (25, 26, 27, 28). A connection from the rectifier is taken via a capacitor (39) to the base of a switching transistor (13) in a blocking oscillator circuit. The transistor's emitter is connected to the common point of two capacitors (37, 38) across the rectifier whose voltages are limited by zener diodes (35, 36). A dynistor (23) inhibits operation of the oscillator during charging of the reservoir capacitors (34, 37, 38). Only a positive signal on the base will trigger the oscillator. This signal exists only when the voltage at the divider output (33) is changing about zero and the rectifier diodes (26, 28) are still non-conducting.
