Abstract

The power unit for a motor mower is carried by a plate (18) mounted on a base (16) supported on rubber mounts (14). A casing (26) is lined with sound absorbing material (28) and includes a vertical air inlet (24) which sweeps over horizontally at (30) in a spiral. Some of the air passes to the engine inlet at (44) and the remainder cools the engine. Exhaust gases pass through an annular silencer (56) around the drive shaft (54) from the engine and on which the cutting tool carrier (72) is mounted. A plate (78) is secured to the tool carrier by guide vanes (76). Exhaust gases and cooling air pas through (P2) and outwardly past vanes (76) to emerge between carrier (72) and the casing at (66).
