Abstract

A floor covering material is produced which comprises six layers : (1) a cellular plastic e.g. PVC material; (2) a dimensionally stabilising layer of e.g. non-woven glass fibres; (3) a second layer of the plastic material; (4) a further layer of cellular plastic material which is raised in relief; (5) an ink layer; and (6) a transparent, protective layer of e.g. PVC. The novelty resides in the pre-gelling of the first plastisol layer (1) so that a paper support is no longer necessary for the transport of the first soft layer through the curing ovens. Paper normally used for this purpose is expensive, and usually siliconised for use more than once. Further, the removal of the paper support can provide further finishing problems due to irregular surfacing.
