Abstract

Display cell is produced by (a) coating an insulating substrate lamina with a first electrode; (b) depositing at the periphery of the substrate a wall of a first material which is chemically inert with respect to the liquid film and is fusible; (c) placing across the wall at least one filling tube made of a second material with a higher m.pt.; (d) forming a second lamina of transparent insulating material coated with a semi-transparent electrode material; (e) sealing the tube into the wall between the two laminae by heating the assembly to a temp. at least equal to the m.pt. of the wall material but below that of the tube; and (f) allowing the cell to cool. Used esp. for display cells of the electrolytic film type. The cell may also be used for liquid crystal cells. The cells are used for alphanumeric and analogue character displays. Perfect seals durable over long periods can be obtained between the cell laminae.
