Abstract

The variable-pressure float is for laying undersea pipelines, and comprises tubular sections coupled by means of slings to the pipeline, which is held by guide ropes at a distance from the bottom. Pressure-resistant pipes connect each section to a pressurising station at the surface. It is composed of a continuous tube divided into successive sealed compartments, the pressure-resistant pipes (7) being fixed to the tube (1) and running along it. These pipes can run inside the tube, passing through the partitions of the preceding compartments by means of a sealed passage.
