Abstract

L'invention a pour objet un procédé d'affinage de métal fondu contenant une impureté oxydable préférentiellement à un ou des constituants choisis du métal et qui forme un oxyde gazeux, ce procédé étant caractérisé en ce qu'il consiste à injecter de l'oxygène et un gaz diluant dans le métal fondu contenu dans un récipient de manière à réduire la proportion de l'impureté du métal par dégagement sous forme d'oxyde gazeux, à peser le récipient pendant l'affinage pour établir le point où le poids du contenu du récipient change notablement en raison de l'oxydation préférentielle de l'un ou des constituants choisis, à amorcer à ce point une réduction du rapport oxygène/gaz diluant de manière à réduire la vitesse d'oxydation de l'un ou des constituants par rapport à la vitesse d'oxydation de l'impureté et à poursuivre l'injection jusqu'à ce que la proportion de l'impureté soit réduite à la valeur désirée.
