Abstract

The parent patent describes the fastening of sets of spiked semirigid (polyurethane) panels or flaps around car tyres to enhance grip in soft ground. This addn. describes the linking of the ends of such panels by pairs of woven nylon cords which are periodically impregnated as mould inserts during injection moulding of the flaps. The ends of the cords are doubled back and over-moulded to form terminal loops for holding hool or eye links captive. The terminal panels have integral rings which can be engaged by several turns of an elastic tie used to secure the outside ends of the panels under tension around the tyre. The nylon cords are lighter than chains, are more firmly anchored and less prone to chafing than cords secured by clamps or penetrated by rivets.
