Abstract

The variable-angle fairlead is for use with ship winch ropes. It comprises two sheaves on horizontal axes offset from each other in the vertical direction so that the tangent common to the grooves in the sheaves is vertical. Two sheaths support the sheaves, being mounted opposite each other and pivoting on a common axis coaxial to the common tangent. This pivot axis canbe formed by two opposite trunnions, the lower one being supported by the fairlead sole plate. The top one can be mounted in a plate above the sheaths and fixed to two supports secured to the sole plate.
