Abstract

The retractable spindle for sliding folding doors, ie. with panels which inter-articulate about abutting vertical edges, assists installation. Initially the spindles (5) are fixed to the door in a retracted position. When the door is positioned in the door opening they slide out until the rollers (6) locate in the rails (9). The spindles locate in vertical alignment on a horizontal edge of the door and are mounted to slide in fixed sleeves (1, 2). One end of each projects beyond the edge of the door is carry the roller (6). The other end has a radially projecting arm (10), and the sleeve (1) includes an 'L' shaped slot (3, 4) for the arm (10). A spring (8) is between the roller (6) and the edge of the door. The spindle (5) is retracted by using the arm (10). The spring (8) is compressed and the spindle is locked in the retracted position by pivoting the arm (10) into the horizontal section (4) of the slot (3, 4). The reverse process which released the spindle is assisted by the spring.
