Abstract

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de faire démarrer la fusion d'un laitier qui n'est pas conducteur de l'électricité à l'état solide. Le procédé consiste à placer une couverture de graphite C sur le dessus du laitier solide S, à mettre en contact la couverture avec au moins deux électrodes 4 séparées l'une de l'autre et à alimenter les électrodes en courant électrique de manière à provoquer la sublimation du graphite et l'établissement d'un arc de plasma de gaz carbonique entre les électrodes. La température de l'arc est suffisante pour faire fondre le laitier se trouvant au voisinage des électrodes. L'invention s'applique au procédé d'affinage électrochimique par laitier (ESR).
