Abstract

A pleated or gathered effect is achieved on leather for use in clothing, shoes or furnishings. A layer of adhesive is applied to an elastic fabric, and the leather is placed on it. In the example, the leather envelopes the elastic fabric. In order to produce gathered effect, the leather and its support may either be stretched, or ironed with a hot iron. Previous attemps to pleat or father leather have been long, arduous and not totally successful. The method of the invention is time-saving and yields a good quality product.
