Abstract

Rubber tyres of composite construction comprise an inner hoop (B) of soft rubber and an outer hoop (D) of hard rubber with an intermediate hoop (F) of metal (steel) fastened or bonded to the inner rubber hoop (B). Used esp. for solid tyres for industrial trolleys, fork lift trucks, etc., to provide a comfortable ride, (due to the soft rubber) coupled with good wear resistance and low hysteresis/rolling friction energy losses, due to the hard surface rubber. The metal hoop stabilises the wheel form against deformation due to the combined effects of axle loading and torsional stress.
