Abstract

A radiant solar energy trap comprises a V-section through with walls of insulating material having reflective surfaces and fitted with a transparent cover. Cold liq. is admitted at the base of the trough and heated liq. is drawn from a surface layer at approx. half the height of the trough. The rate of through flow may be restricted by a thermostatted offtake valve. The system is simpler in construction than combinations of reflective traps and independent liq. ducts or pipes, and exposes a relatively large liq. surface area to direct heating. May be used for direct or indirect heating systems, using pump or convection circulation.
