Abstract
Resilient pipe bend for installation in coolant pipes of blast furnaces, partic. in the region of casing and brickwork cooling, comprises several dimensionally stable layers of metal mesh, with intermediate layers of asbestos and a flexible material e.g. natural or synthetic rubber, and a heat- and flame- resistant outer layer of resilient material. At the ends of the pipe bend are connecting elements for flanges, screw-on couplings or quick-action couplings. Flexibility of the pipe bend provides a multi-dimensional compensatory action, by which expansion stresses on heating up the furnace are taken up completely, and tensile and compressive stresses on the connecting elements are relieved.
