Abstract

The device to prevent vehicles from running backwards has a ratchet support (4) and pawl (5) which is held by an arm (6). There is a hook (7) for locking the pawl and a spring (8) to act on the hook and an arm (9) for actuating the hook. A lever works the hook and has a return spring (11), and a lever which disengages the pawl and has also a return spring. Normally, the pawl is held up and maintained there in the notch of the hook (7) by the spring. When the handbrake is applied, it automatically engages the pawl in part of the transmission to prevent reverse motion.
