Abstract

An electrical pin connector (2) which forms part of a quartz bar support is connected to a ceramic base (1). The ceramic base (1) has a hole (5) in it whose walls are metallised. The connection is made by forcing a metallic washer (3) into one end of the hole in the ceramic base. The electrical pin connector (2) is introduced into a central hole in the washer. From the opposite end of the base a piece of preformed solder (4) is placed into the hole (5) and over the pin connector (2). The solder is heated until the washer pin and metallised walls of the base hole are fused together. The solder is a high fusion point soft solder.
