Abstract
A mechanism for driving any type of machine consists of a disc (4) carrying a lever (10) with a balance weight (9). The lever (10) is mounted on a pivot (11) and is fitted with a toothed quadrant (8) which engages a pinion (15). The pinion (15) is attached to a gear wheel (18) which engages a rack (20) which slides in a guide (19). Two such mechanisms are mounted on a common shaft with the axes of the racks (20) at right angles to each other. As the disc (4) rotates the lever (10) moves between the stops (6, 7) and drives the rack (20) upwards. This results in an imbalance which drives the disc through a further 90 deg. The process is repeated with the second disc so that, it is claimed, the motion is continued indefinitely.
