Abstract

Structural element forming a covering layer, e.g. a ceiling panel, comprises on the front surface a thin sheet of synthetic material e.g. PVC, and on the rear surface a thicker panel of hard foam e.g. polystyrene foam. The two layers have mating embossed zones. The thickness of the thin sheet and of the foam panel, measured perpendicularly to the main plane of the whole element, is not greater at any point than the thickness of the embossed zones extending parallel to the main plane. The embossed zones provide an aesthetic appearance, while the foam layer increases strength and rigidity and facilitates handling. The panel has max. possible compactness for max. reduction in costs of storage and transport. The panels can be stacked without forming any gaps between them.
