Abstract

Phenolic ethers of formula (Ia) and their acid-addn. salts are new. In (Ia), p is 2,3,4 or 5; q is 1,2,3 or 4; m is 0,1,2,3 or 4; n is 0 or 1 provided that when m is 0; X is O, S or SO2; R is branched 3-4C alkyl, 3-4C cyclo-alkyl, 3-4C cyanoalkyl; phenylalkyl opt. substd. on the benzene ring by halo, 1-4C alkyl or 1-4C alkoxy, and in which the alkyl has 2-4C; 1-4C acylamino-(1-4C)alkyl. The cpds. of formula (I) (where m is 0, 1 or 2; n is 0 or 1 provided that when m is 0, n is 0; p is 2,3,4 or 5; and R is isoyl or t-butyl) are not claimed. (I) are selective beta-blockers for treating cardiovascular disorders. A typical cpd. 1- 4-(3-cyclopropylpropoxy) phenoxy -3-isopropylaminopropan-2-ol is prepd. by reaction of 4-(3-cyclopropylpropoxy)penol with epibropmohydrin and aq. KOH to give 1- 4-(3-cyclopropylpropoxy)phenoxy -2,3-epoxypropnae and treating it with isopropylamine.
