Abstract
A wind driven machine has a number of cylindrical arms (20) mounted on radially arranged shafts (18) connected to a gear box (16) forming the rotor hub. The gear box is driven from a horizontal shaft mounted in a bearing (12) supported in a vertical column (10). Once the shaft (14) is set in rotation it drives the cylinder (20) in the direction of the arrow. When the wind blows, in the direction the relative velocity between wind and cylinder is higher on one side than on the other. This results in a greater local pressure drop on one side so that the cylinder is pushed in the direction of the lower pressure side.
